Liberty of London cotton is synonymous with quality, tradition and floral patterns. In our Madrid studio we have been working with Liberty cotton over the past ten years in my jewelry business and there are ways you can tell that a fabric is from Liberty. This fall and winter we will surely want to wear good quality clothes and accessories with floral patterns.
So here is what I have learnt:
Liberty cotton has an even colour and texture and a great mixture of unusual colours, though many of them are very familiar to us, such as the ones we chose for our new added designs
Liberty cotton dries quickly. This is due to the quality of the raw cotton used and to the quality of the threads. (See a listing, a bracelet)
Liberty ribbons used in jewelry making are soft, not stiff, and are very comfortable to wear as bracelets and necklaces. (See a listing with a child)
Liberty ribbons tie easily, which makes them ideal for wrapping around bouquets and attaching medallons to cots. (See a listing)
Liberty fabrics, of course, come with several pieces of information printed on the border, including the mark of authenticity, which includes the Liberty logo, the name of the design, the place of production, the width and the colors used in the design.
So if you have a floral print shirt or skirt, bracelet or necklace that is always light, fresh and after many washes is still in good condition, then surely it is a Liberty production. If you are thinking of buying a gift for a loved one or something for yourself for the coming season, go for Liberty fabric - you will be rewarded. And let me know what other characteristics you think are emblematic of Liberty cotton.
Until next time.
